Our second workshop - "Organizing for Social Change: Strategy Session forRefugees & Immigrants" - on July 25 was a success! The Bhutanese/Nepali Community of Columbus graciously hosted this gathering along with the Central Ohio Worker Center, Community Refugee & Immigrant Services, RefugeeWomen in Action, and Church World Service
Building off the first gathering in February, the Refugee and Immigrant communities of Columbus are uniting around a shared vision for civic engagement and positive change in the community. The group recalled issues brought up on our first gathering in Feburary (Youth/Schools, Language/Culture, Work & Employment, Housing, Transportation, Social Services, and Police/Immigration). Three core issues - Language/Culture, Work & Employment, and Housing - were chosen to be discussed in smaller groups to start creating a long-term vision, short-term goals, and strategies to get us there.
